Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients. With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow. Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on medications and additional treatments. Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of the practice systems. Obtain relevant health history information from clients and maintain medical charts. Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs. Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
Veterinary technicians must have excellent communication skills, so that they may interact with pet owners and coworkers. They must have an understanding of animal behavior and strong clinical skills in order to properly evaluate an animal's condition and provide treatment. They must be detail-oriented and well-organized so that they may take medical histories, carry out instructions, document patient statistics and update records. It's also essential that they enjoy working with animals and have the ability to comfort, handle and restrain large and small pets. Have a positive attitude.
Take histories, vital signs, draw blood for lab test, IV catheter placement, knowledge in giving vaccines, fecal evaluation, cytology preparation and interpretation, obtain radiographs, assist in patient care including treatments and procedures, and prep for surgeries. This is a fast paced environment.
