Wilhite & Frees Equine Hospital (WFEH) announces an associate veterinarian position. WFEH is an established and growing equine practice with an ambulatory component that serves the greater Kansas City Metropolitan area. Our Mission Statement: WFEH is committed to offering comprehensive, state-of-the-art health care to horses in a caring and compassionate environment. We provide primary and referral services to Missouri and Kansas; as well as haul-ins from surrounding Midwest states. Our clientele consists of English and Sport horses, Western performance, pleasure and trail, gaited horses, and back-yard companions. Our ambulatory and in-house services provide general health and wellness care, dentistry, lameness, performance maintenance, reproduction, chiropractic, acupuncture, rehabilitation, elective and emergency surgery, medicine, and imaging.
We are seeking a talented, energetic, and pleasant individual to join our team. A focus on patient care and client service is paramount. Preference will be given to applicants with experience, excellent communication skills, and the desire to provide exemplary veterinary service to our client’s horses while helping the practice grow.
The veterinarian who joins us will be expected to provide ambulatory, outpatient, and in-hospital care; as well as share in emergency on-call service (with emergency stipends). Each of our DVMs is scheduled for appointments just 4 days a week. We provide the opportunity for our veterinarians to attend continuing education each year; and we encourage and support our doctors to pursue and develop skills they are passionate about. We have historically offered $60,000 in salary (with the potential for more given skills, experience, and production; often exceeding $100,000); and benefits (health insurance, disability, GAP insurance, professional liability insurance, AVMA and AAEP dues, and coverage for annual CE) are around $11,000. After a year of employment there is a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan (transitioning to a 401K program) with employer matching which typically adds about $2,500.
Kansas City has been referred to as the Paris of the Plains, the cradle of Jazz, and serves the nation’s best BBQ. We have our share of champion sports teams, a vibrant arts scene, museums of all sorts, farmer’s markets, breweries, coffee houses, and more fountains than any other city in the world (except Rome). It’s a great place to live and work, with nice people and great horses. Kansas City is worth a visit; you will probably want to stay.
Interested applicants should send a resume/CV and letter of intent to Dr. Karl Frees at freesdvm@gmail.com. More information about the practice can be found at www.wilhiteandfrees.com, at our Facebook page, or visiting with any of our friendly and helpful team members at 816-779-0100.
