Broadreach is seeking instructors to lead international, vet and animal science summer programs for teens.
Broadreach is dedicated to providing middle school, high school and college students with active and meaningful experiences abroad that help them explore their interests and spark new curiosities. Our adventures combine cultural exploration with opportunities for students to learn new skills, gain certifications and earn academic credits, based on the program they attend.
Our best instructors are positive, flexible, team players who are able to create a fun, cohesive and supportive community. Groups typically have 8 – 12 students and two Broadreach Instructors. Contracts range from three to eight weeks from early June through mid-August. If you’re looking for a veterinary summer job, submit an application.
Broadreach Instructors are expected to educate, mentor and inspire students everyday. This is a 24/7 position with limited free time or personal space. Students participate in lectures, discussions, fieldwork and lab training, as well as activities that build leadership and teamwork. Our goal is that students gain new skills, new friends and have more fun learning than they ever thought possible.
Broadreach Instructors also need to be energetic and empathetic role models who excel in building meaningful relationships with young adults.
Responsibilities:
Lead academic components for an animal science program, using experiential education methodologies, hands-on activities and demonstrations. (topics may include pre-op and post-op procedures). Resources and lesson plans will be provided.
Managing health and safety of small group of students.
Maintaining a positive attitude through challenging circumstances, and act as a role model for students.
Participate in service learning projects.
Facilitating inclusive group dynamics
Demonstrate respectful travel and the idea of being a life long learner.
Staff training for this role takes place in Raleigh NC (EARLY JUNE). Programs take place in Costa Rica, (JUNE to AUGUST) flights and accommodations are covered by Broadreach and instructors are given a daily stipend.
This is a full time seasonal position for the summer. Preference is given to instructors who can attend training and lead two sessions of the program, individuals who can lead one session will also be considered.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree or equivalent in animal science, animal biology, zoology or related field of study. This also includes DVM candidates who have completed two or more years of vet school.
Ability to teach academic portions of the program.
Experience facilitating a group of young adults and positive group dynamics.
A passion for mentoring and inspiring students.
Physically fit and able to participate in adventure activities such as hiking, rafting, snorkeling, etc.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills to help manage program expenses, a budget, student documents and logistics.
Significant international travel experience in Latin America preferred.
Spanish language skills area plus.
Able to attend training in Raleigh, N.C. starting in late May.
Broadreach offers summer adventure learning programs for teens and college-aged students in locations around the world. Current programs in veterinary medicine take place in Costa Rica, Bali and the Bahamas.
