The Lena Veterinary Clinic in Lena, Illinois is offering availability for student externships for companion animal veterinary medicine students. We are currently a nine veterinarian, mixed animal practice located in Northern Illinois within one hour from Rockford, Madison, and Dubuque. We continue to have robust demand for our growing veterinary services, so this is a great opportunity for future employment. We strive to provide appropriate mentorship and look forward to helping you jump start your career!
The externship is entirely small animal, serving pets which mainly includes dogs and cats, with the occasional bird, guinea pig, ferret, etc. Services we offer to our clients include gas anesthesia, digital radiography, dentistry, in-house blood work, ultrasound, therapy laser, and cremation services. Our surgical schedule is offered daily, Monday through Friday, and may include routine surgeries, non-routine soft tissue surgeries such as mass removal, scheduled or emergency cesereans, minor orthopedics, ear hematoma repair, laser declaws, and more!
If the extern is interested, they may choose to additionally include large animal experience during their visit. Our large animal clientele is mainly dairy/beef, but we regularly service equine, small ruminants, and swine patients as well.
Our doctors and staff have a strong compassion for companion animal medicine and superior teamwork skills. Each veterinarian has a certified veterinary technician available to assist in all daily small animal procedures.
Our clinic has a room available which is dedicated to housing students if needed. If you're interested in an externship with us, please contact us via phone or e-mail:
