The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Iowa State University (ISU) is excited to announce that we are seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure or clinical track faculty appointment in Anesthesiology in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). The LVMC is a state-of-the-art teaching hospital that provides specialized and primary care as well as emergency services to companion and production animals throughout Iowa and the surrounding states. The CVM at ISU is also dedicated to providing a great educational experience to the next generation of veterinarians and advancing veterinary medicine through innovative research.
The successful candidate would join four faculty as well as nine dedicated veterinary technicians (including a credentialed VTS in Anesthesia and Analgesia) in the anesthesia section, which is continually expanding to support the growing and diverse caseload of the LVMC. The LVMC is made up of a robust team of clinicians providing care to patients through our small animal, equine, and food and camelid hospitals which incorporate a wide range of specialty services including cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, radiology, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, and theriogenology. The LVMC is also delighted to offer complementary care to its patients at the hospital through its rehabilitation service. The VCS department strives to maintain a cooperative community of faculty and staff that are allied in teaching, research, and clinical efforts. Therefore, numerous opportunities exist for collaboration across a range of activities. ISU is proud to offer many resources as well as institutional support at the CVM and beyond for faculty members in order to foster their scholarly and pedagogical endeavors and support their successful development as an academic clinician.
The department is seeking a candidate to join our collegial team who is committed to excellent patient care, enthusiastic about educating veterinary students at all stages in their veterinary education, house officers, and technicians, and interested in performing scholarly activities to further the practice of veterinary medicine. Clinical responsibility would be shared with the other anesthesia faculty and include providing anesthesia for small animal, equine, and food animal services. Teaching expectations would include clinical instruction of veterinary students on their anesthesia rotation and pre-clinical instruction in didactic and laboratory coursework. The successful candidate would also contribute to the training of future anesthesia residents for which two positions exist and provide anesthesia instruction for interns and residents from other services in the LVMC. A desirable candidate would strive to enhance the national prominence of the LVMC’s anesthesiology section through scholarly activities. The appointment rank and percent effort for tenure or clinical track positions is negotiable and determined by the candidate’s qualifications, expertise, and special interests. Clinical duties will include weekend, holiday, and after-hours service that are shared amongst the anesthesia faculty.
We look forward to your application as an opportunity to hear about what you would bring to the team at ISU and to tell you more about our ever-progressing work and efforts at ISU.
