Veterinary colleges encourage off-campus educational experiences in practices outside of the teaching hospital. This practical, real-life experience will help to prepare 4th year veterinary students for life after graduation. Our externship program is designed to benefit both the veterinary student by providing them with the skills and confidence needed to start their first job out of school, but we also hope we may meet the right individual(s) to join our practice as an associate veterinarian.
Our externships are flexible and can range from two to four weeks (or longer), depending on the specific requirements of your program. Your schedule may include days, evenings and Saturdays. There are no after hour emergency responsibilities.
During the externship students will be provided opportunities to practice medicine, surgery, dentistry, client communication, and technical skills. Students will work under the direct supervision of their veterinary mentor. Externs are given the opportunity to work alongside our veterinary team and are encouraged to participate in all aspects of patient care. This is a paid position with an hourly rate of $20 per hour.
The right candidate is both enthusiastic and positive. They have a desire to learn and are also client focused. As a veterinary student extern, we expect you to dress and behave in a professional manner and to treat both our team members and clients with respect and kindness.
Requirements:
- Be enrolled in an accredited DVM program - 4th year students preferred.
- You are authorized to work in the United States.
